About Motorhome Solar and Electrical
Clyde R | Roof Technician
Clyde Rye brings a positive, can-do attitude to his role as a roof technician and installer at Motorhome Solar. With 7 years of experience and a background as a machine operator, he’s used to tackling a wide range of tasks and enjoys the fact that no two days are the same. Clyde is always willing to jump in where needed, helping out with whatever tasks arise, making him a key part of the team.
What Clyde enjoys most is finishing a job and seeing the customer’s satisfaction. Whether it’s an installation or a repair, he’s focused on keeping things running smoothly and ensuring the job is completed to a high standard. His hands-on approach and enthusiasm keep the workday interesting, and he thrives on the variety that each new project brings.
Cullen S | Motorhome Solar Sales
With a background in customer service, Cullen’s journey started out of sheer curiosity and a desire to join a great team.
Cullen Sparrow has worn many hats at Motorhome Solar, from solar technician to workshop supervisor, has managed front-of-house sales.
In his current role of Lead Technician, he sets technical standards, mentors newer team members, handles complex system designs, and oversees quality control. Cullen thrives on solving tricky install problems, optimising wiring layouts, and ensuring every system we deliver is safe, efficient and durable.
What he enjoys most? The feedback from satisfied customers and the continuous learning that comes with the job.
Gary W | Registered Electrical Inspector
Gary brings a wealth of experience in electrical installation to Motorhome Solar, with a background in 230-415 VAC systems and a history of managing and mentoring apprentice electricians. He saw joining the team as a chance to grow, diving into the world of solar and DC systems. Gary handles everything from installing DC-DC chargers to setting up inverters and batteries, and as a registered Electrical Inspector, carries out EWOF checks, all with the goal of delivering exactly what customers need—and often a bit more. His eye for detail is legendary, making him an invaluable resource both in the field and in the classroom.
Outside of work, Gary’s life is equally busy. With six children, grandchildren to spoil, and a bit of land to farm, there’s always something keeping him occupied. He’s a sports enthusiast, with a particular love for air charters, rugby, cricket, and motorsports. And while he enjoys a round of golf, he humbly admits that he’s his own biggest handicap!
Gary’s proudest moments come from positive customer feedback, knowing that his work has made a real difference. His favourite product? Inverter chargers, which provide vital backup options for off-grid systems, especially for those relying on essential devices like CPAP machines while travelling.
Jo H | Accounts and Customer Support
Jo brings years of experience in accounting and admin, having worked across a wide range of industries since leaving school. At Motorhome Solar, she looks after accounts and helps with customer service, keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.
She came across the role through a Seek ad, but it was the casual chat with Wayne that made the decision easy. “I’ll just put the billy on and we can meet and chat,” he said, and that sealed the deal.
Jo enjoys being able to get stuck into her work and be part of a team that’s flexible and rolls with whatever the day brings.
She’s played a key role in setting up systems and supporting the launch of Viking Distribution, something she looks back on with quiet pride.
One of her proudest moments? Not overreacting when a giant spider showed up in reception!
Outside of work, Jo enjoys walking, tramping, dancing, and catching up with friends. She’s also recently become Nana JoJo, and proudly has both a new grandchild and a grand-dog to fuss over. A glass of wine and a bit of chocolate now and then don’t go amiss either.
Johnny T | General Manager
Johnny Thompson leads the Motorhome Solar team as General Manager. He brings a blend of operational know-how and strong leadership to the role. Over his years here, Johnny has managed logistics, supply chains, and internal coordination. In this new role, he oversees every aspect of our business — balancing daily operations, supporting all teams, and ensuring our systems scale reliably.
Before becoming GM, Johnny was Operations & Logistics Manager. He was known for running a tight ship and keeping everything on track. He has a solid electrical background, and in his years with Motorhome Solar keeps communications clear, workflows smooth, and operations efficient. The team appreciates his calm decisiveness during hectic projects and his leadership in navigating challenges.
Outside work, Johnny enjoys working on cars, going to car events, and spending time with family and friends. One of his proudest moments was when his team pulled off a major project despite the project manager being out injured, a good example of the team spirit he cultivates. His favourite gear? Victron power products. He backs them not just for performance but for reliable warranties that prove their quality.
Jonathan vH | Workshop Supervisor
Jonathan runs our workshop operations day to day. His focus is coordination – scheduling jobs, managing workflow, ensuring parts and materials are in place, and maintaining quality across all workstreams. He’s the bridge between what comes in (customer requests, parts, job prep) and what goes out (completed, tested installs). Jonathan’s organisational approach keeps the workshop fluid, responsive, and reliable.
Jonathan has built up solid experience over the years, working in lighting, audio, and visual tech, and even in engineering at The University of Waikato. His role here is all about diagnostics, repairs, and system installs, but what really drives Jonathan is problem-solving. He enjoys finding solutions that make a genuine difference for motorhome owners, whether it’s upgrading a system or resolving a tricky technical issue.
When he’s not at work, you’ll often find Jonathan tinkering with vehicles or creating intricate builds with Lego. His approach to both his hobbies and his work reflects a careful attention to detail and a genuine interest in how things work. It’s this passion that ensures our customers receive the best service and reliable systems that suit their lifestyle. Jonathan’s focus is always on helping people get the most from their setup, improving things in a way that makes life on the road a little easier.
William C | Solar Technician & Customer Support
William’s been into electronics for as long as he can remember, so working with solar systems was a natural fit. He’s got a solid understanding of electrical principles, and most of what he knows has been hands-on, learning on the job.
At Motorhome Solar, William handles installations and customer support—setting up solar controllers, batteries, and 12V power systems, and making sure customers get the right advice when they’re looking at their options.
The best part of the job? Working with new tech and seeing a tidy, well-done install. He takes pride in the little details, making sure everything’s neat and professional.
Outside of work, William’s into retro and vintage computers – collecting, building, and repairing them. He also enjoys gaming, reading, and spending time with his family.
What does he bring to the team? A different kind of technical background. His experience with electronics and computer networking adds another layer of knowledge to the mix. He also gets a real kick out of reading customer reviews and knowing he’s done a job well.
His favourite thing about Motorhome Solar? The attention to detail. Every job’s done properly, no shortcuts, no mess. Just clean, professional work that looks as good as it performs.
